The British Museum

After Windsor Castle, we went to the British Museum. The architecture is amazing. The inside ceiling is breathtaking. In the middle of the main area, there is a miniature building connecting the ceiling and the floor.
We had to see the Rosetta Stone. The Rosetta Stone was found in Egypt in 1799. It became the key to understanding ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics, a language that had been lost for centuries. It shows three different languages - Egyptian hieroglyphics, Demotic, and ancient Greek. The writings were craved in each language. Since this was found, it made a big advance in studying ancient Egyptian culture.
We also were able to see an exhibit on the Greek Parthenon. There were stone slabs that decorated the outside of the Parthenon when it was made. The Parthenon was made as a temple to Athena and was the main building in Athens, Greece. We also were able to see the famous sculpture of Venus, the Lely Venus. It is a very beautiful sculpture.
My favorite room we visited was the Greek and Roman architecture exhibit. It showed the different styles used during those times and diagrams of famous buildings or temples built.
Lastly, we saw the cat mummies. They were up to a foot tall and oddly, cute. Enjoy!
